Rapid Transit Industry
Problem:
Mass transit systems require repair facilities for maintenance
of electrically powered coaches. Due to worker safety
considerations, "live" power rails are prohibited,
so alternative power systems are needed to easily move coaches
within repair facilities.
Solution:
Two parallel runs of Feedrail¨,
one for DC power and the other for control, serve the needs
of the transit industry. Commonly referred to as a "stinger
system", a specifically designed boot and shoe connect
the overhead DC power supply to the powerless coaches at the
entrance to the repair facilities. Once on the Feedrail,
the coaches can be manually controlled through a pendant station
and moved throughout the facilities with absolute worker safety.
